The free event at Paradise Green was sponsored by Get Healthy CT, a regional wellness coalition. It opened with a routine from Double Up Dance Studio, followed by many other dance groups.

“This dance day was really something amazing. It was nice to see dancers from different studios come out and celebrate the day,” Alexis Rodridquez said.

Gift baskets were raffled off to participants who earned tickets by making a pledge to live a healthier lifestyle.

A variety of different vendors set up tables during the event, including the Stratford YMCA, which explained the programs and activities available for children and adults of all ages. The American Heart Association was there reminding people to eat the right foods to stay healthy and help prevent heart attacks and strokes.

On display at the table for the Fairfield Department of Health was a footlong log-shaped yellow item that felt like a mound of jelly. It turned out to be 5 pounds of fat. Holding it up will make you think twice about what kinds of foods you eat and how they can affect your body.

Other dance performances were presented by CT Dance Conservatory, Fred Astaire from Trumbull, Stratford YMCA with Zumba, Carol Farrell School of Dancing, the Latin Rhythm Dance Studio, the Trumbull YMCA and Double Up Dance Studio. The highlight of the event was the National Dance Day Routine.

The National Dance Day in Stratford was sponsored by ShopRite, Stop & Shop, and Whole Foods Market Fairfield.
